ABOUT
Nick Davis has long been recognised
as a composer of music that is very much classical in
style but he certainly did not start his musical career
in that vein. A self taught professional musician, Nick
Davis built his reputation in the mid eighties as a skilled
songwriter and a gifted pop keyboardist and vocalist.
Inspired by the likes of the English keyboard virtuosos
and singer songwriters such as Howard Jones and Nik Kershaw,
Nick released his first two solo albums in 1985. Make it
Happen reached number 1 on the West Australian Independent
Charts(WAIC) and his follow up album Deja Vu made it to
number 3.
In 1986 Nick Davis formed his original band called De
Vie. The band De Vie went on to become one of the foremost
original acts in Perth and recorded an album entitled Spice
of Life. The following year Nick withdrew from the music
scene to focus on other interests after recording Dress
to Impress, his third solo album.
1990's
It was not until 1992 that Nik re-emerged with his album
Chance to Dream which was produced and engineered in
his home studio.
In late 1992 Nick moved to Melbourne where he continued
to hone his skills as a musician and songwriter. Nik wrote
commercial jingles and recorded with a number of local
Melbourne musicians.
Nick then returned to Perth in 1996 with the desire to
expand his musical horizons. Being inspired by the World
Music phenomenon, Nick set about recording another album
Tears of the Moon which he released in 1997. The
instrumental album received many generous reviews and represented
a significant departure from his previous writing styles.
Following the success of Tears of the Moon, Nick looked
for a new challenge which led to his enrollment
in an acting course. Upon finishing his acting course Nik
landed the lead role in Playlover's production of David
Williamson's Dead White Males. Dead White Males played
to packed houses and Nick won plaudits for his performance.
Nik then decided to combine his two talents acting and
music and formed a Frank Sinatra tribute show. Currently
performing under his stage name of Earl Cole, Nick is well
known as one of Perth's best crooner's.
2000's
In 2003 Nick wrote and
recorded Eclipse. After a 6 year recording hiatus
Nick produced an album that was an eclectic fusion of New
Age, contemporary classical, Celtic and even jazz styles.
The album Eclipse was Nick's attempt to step out of his
comfort zone and take his writing to another level.
March 2004 Nick began writing material for his album
Tales of a Summer Past . Released in February 2005, it
is an album that is firmly in the realm of New Age classical
/ crossover classical music. Using only orchestral sounds
Nik aimed to re-captured the energy of Tears of the Moon
yet produced an album that explored the neo-classical far
more deftly than did Eclipse. The reviews the album have
received have been extremely positive.
In July 2005 Nick was driven to
produce yet another album and commenced writing material
for Candescence. NIk's rapid development as
a composer and songwriter is evident with the critiques
he has received.
