Don Smith has been an actor, clown, comedian, drama teacher and corporate presenter for over twenty years. Don Smith originally trained at Curtin University (WAIT) where he graduated with a BA in English (Theatre Major) in 1982. Even before graduating Don was working as a professional performer and entertainer. In February/March 1997 Don performed for Yirra Yaakin in Runamuk, playing various white male roles. Previous to that Don has worked for: Spare Parts in Rainmaker by Jack Davis; National Theatre Playhouse in On Our Selection ; Theatre Kimberley in Away and Butterflies Of Kalimantan; Barking Gecko in My Space Too; Winter Theatre in Backyard; various ABC radio productions; ten years of Stand up Comedy (including a guest performance at the 1996 Amnesty International Comedy festival in Sydney and more recently MC for Elliot Goblett’s WA tour and Pommy Johnson’s WA tour); and regular presentations of How to Laugh Your Way Out Of A Paper Bag for the University Of WA Summer school. Don received a grant from the ARTS WA to study Commedia Dell’ Arte in Italy in 1998. In 2002 Don Smith taught commedia dell’ arte at The W.A. Academy of Performing Arts. Currently he is working as a Clown Doctor for the Humour Foundation at Princess Margaret Hospital and working as a Comedian and Clown in various venues in WA, including the Perth Zoo, WA Trots and Burswood. |
