ZALIA

Zalia has been involved in the entertainment industry for over 3 decades, starting singing and dancing when she was 4years old.  Her experience ranges from blues- rock bands to intimate jazz soirees, classical choirs to saucy duo’s and acoustic spots at various café’s throughout the lands. She has performed to 3000 people at big shows, in pubs and streets around Australia, at openings for Art Exhibitions, Christmas concerts, to those who are less advantaged and to children and adults in hospital.

She has sung many varied styles with many different bands. Cutting her teeth on blues and rock (Dr Brown Blues Band, Dead Set, Clown School, Loco), she joined the soul band CJ & the T Horns and sang in the tribute bands of David Bowie (Scott James) and Pink Floyd (Pulse). Having the creative drive, she has collaborated on many different original projects performing live and recording (Thirst, Acid, Sorcy, Sonic Adventurers, Dave Reynolds) - the latest being for visiting Indian Sikhs for their Sacred Hymns Album.

Zalia has played in acoustic duos across through out Western Australia, playing guitar, singing lead and harmony vocals.
She began her university studies at Curtin (BA in English) majoring in Theatre and Creative Writing. During this time she began to perform singing telegrams which she continued for 11 years. She performed as Fifi the French maid, Helga the Swedish nurse, Mary Xmas, Police Woman, Sister Blasphemous, Gorilla, Frog, Angel, Riot Fairy, Harem Girl, Prego Paula, Madam Lash, Cher, and currently as Earth Fairy Princess.

After Curtin, she decided to study music at the WA Conservatorium - Advanced Certificate in Commercial Music. This educated her in the language of music and helped define the musician she is today. Because of her passion for theatre she went onto study the Certificate in Musical Theatre (WAAPA) which is where she began her classical training. This opened her voice up to the new exciting possibilities of sound not just song.
She has won several competitions in singing: 2004- Subiaco Song Competition; 1998- Paddy Hannan’s Karaoke Competition- Burswood Casino WA; 1994- Original song competition, James St Nightclub “Rainbow Blues”.

Performance highlights to date have been - Blues at Bridgetown (Loco), Fairbridge (Oracle), Jazz in the Theatre, WA Annual Tattoo shows (Loco), the closing for Fremantle Street Arts Festival, busking at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, vocal landscaping for performance artist, Theaker Von Ziarno.

Currently, Zalia is singing and playing acoustic guitar as a solo performer. She has recently become in demand to perform at special parties, weddings and soirees.

Her purpose is to create and communicate that which touches and moves people, embedded in the belief that music and performing is about the audience, not the performer.
