TRILOGY JAZZ TRIO
Linda Oh is a graduate of the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts
on electric bass and double bass. In 2003 she received the Perth Jazz Society
Encouragement Award and was invited to join the Golden Key Honour Society.
In
2004 was the winner of the IAJE Sisters in Jazz collegiate competition where
she was one of five females (and the first Australian) to be selected throughout
the world to form a quintet and perform in New York all expenses paid. In
January she performed with the quintet at the annual IAJE convention held
in Manhattan, NY (the biggest annual gathering of the jazz community) under
the direction of Blue Note Records pianist Renee Rosnes.
Linda was one of
six chosen to compete for the prestigious James Morrison Scholarship in 2003,
competing in Mt Gambier, South Australia and performing with James Morrison,
John Morrison, James Muller and Daryl Somers. In May 2004 she was again invited
to compete but had to decline the invitation due to commitments with the
IAJE Sisters In Jazz in Washington DC.
Just recently Linda has returned from
a trip to Manhattan and Washington DC. There she studied with jazz greats-
Rufus Reid, Todd Coolman, Keter Betts (bassist for Ella Fitzgerald for twenty
four years) and New York bassist, Joe Martin.
In Washington DC Linda performed
at the Kennedy Centre with the IAJE Sisters in Jazz under the direction of
singer Sunny Wilkinson. She also conducted clinics for the Maryland Hubert
Blake High School and participated in jam sessions with singer Janis Siegel
and others.
Linda has composed for the Western Australian Academy of Performing
Arts Big Band and has performed with the likes of James Morrison, Daryl Somers,
Don Burrows, Libby Hammer etc.
Linda has played in the West Australian Army
Band, Oz Big-Band, several local Perth bands such as latin band Cabana, Lylo,
Seven Samurai, and rock-cover band, Scarlett.
In January 2006, Linda performed
with the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Graeme
Lyall in New York for the International Association of Jazz Education annual
conference. Whilst there, Linda performed a successful audition for the Betty
Carter Jazz Ahead jazz specialist program. She is one of eleven to be admitted
into this program.
Experienced pianist, Joshua Crothers is a graduate of the West Australian
Academy of Performing Arts. He has completed a Bachelor of Music (Jazz) with
Honours. While performing at public venues and gigging with funky local Perth
band, Limbic Motion, Josh teaches piano in schools such as John Curtin Senior
High School and Mater Dei Catholic College.
Josh was a member of the West
Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) in 2002 and 2003, under the direction
of Roger Garood.
In the year 2004, Josh played at the Perth Jazz Society with
a “hard-bop” jazz
group called, One Five Nine. This performance included one of Josh’s
original tunes. This performance followed a previous appearance at the Hyde
Park Hotel for a student talent night.
Josh is currently playing keyboards
in local musician Nathan Gaunt’s
band and piano with jazz vocalist Brenda Lee.
Up and coming drummer, Chris
Grant has been performing around Perth since he was fifteen. At sixteen he
was accepted into the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Now only
twenty one, he has played at many live performance venues around Perth including
The Mustang Bar, Universal Bar, The Lama Bar, Benny’s Bar,The Subi
Hotel,The fly by nightclub and many others.
He has performed with the following
bands/Artists Harry Deluxe, Nashid, Brenda Lee, Matt Jodrell Quartet , and
Detour and toured the northern and southern country regions of W.A, as well
as Malaysia and Singapore. Chris has also played a number of musical theater
productions including The Witches of Eastwick , Crazy for you ( the official
opening of the Perth convention exhibition Centre) and Les Miserables.
He
currently plays with original artist Nathan Gaunt, Simon Jeans Trio, Brazilian
Band Sambalicious and Trilogy .He has played to mass audiences of up to nine
thousand people and has been formally teaching drums since he was sixteen.
Chris is currently completing a Bachelor of Music in Jazz performance.
