DUO LENZ
Duo Lenz is a well established classical guitar duo with a depth of international
experience. Formed in 1997, Duo Lenz comprises Ruth and Richard Lenz who
were both well established musicians before coming together as an ensemble.Together
and individually they have played numerous recitals in many countries Duo
Lenz has appeared on Radio and Television and has been invited to perform
at Festivals such as the 'Darwin International Guitar Festival' at the Northern
Territory University in Darwin, the 'Frankston International Guitar Festival'
in Frankston, Melbourne and the 'Fairbridge Festival' in Fairbridge, Western
Australia.
Duo Lenz presents a varied and exciting programme which features
music from all eras. It is their unique stage presence and skill that has
led this dynamic duo to appear in numerous recitals and tour many countries,
performing their broad and exciting repertoire.
Duo Lenz has been praised for their technical skills and unique interaction
on stage. Various composers have been inspired by their close ensemble playing
to write new works for the Duo Lenz. This has resulted in the Duo playing
and recording many premiere performances.
Now the Duo has expanded their repertoire
by including historic instruments in their performances. In late 2002, Ruth
and Richard commissioned Perth Luthier, Simon Rovis Hermann, to build them
copies of two French guitars originating from the 19th Century, made by René Lacôte in Paris,
1839. These guitars are now part of the Duo’s recitals as well as their
modern Paul Sheridan classical guitars.
Ruth Lenz (nee Ebdon) was born in

performances in various Eisteddfods and competitions, as well as appearances
as a soloist on national television, Ruth studied at the University of Western
Australia with John Casey. In 1994 she received a Churchill Fellowship to
study with Richard Wright in London, and three years later attended the Welsh
College of Music and Drama, studying with guitarist John Mills. During her
career Ruth has participated in numerous recitals, both as a soloist and
chamber musician.
Richard Lenz was born in Amsterdam in 1972 and began studying
the guitar at nine years of age. He commenced formal studies in 1990 at the
Alkmaar Conservatorium with Tamara Kropat, continuing with Dick Hoogeveen
at the Rotterdam Conservatorium. After winning two scholarships, Richard
moved to the UK to study with guitarist John Mills at the Welsh College of
Music and Drama; he also studied Vihuela and Period Performance Practice
